Emergency Dental Services
Emergency Dental on the Gold Coast always happen at the worst times and can often be unforeseeable. And although a broken tooth might feel like an emergency, it does not warrant a visit to the hospital; very few dental emergencies do. Instead, a visit to your general dentist should suffice!
At Waterways Dental, we offer Emergency Dental Gold Coast Services Monday to Friday, with some "outside of work hours" appointments available. Our clinicians will do their best to squeeze you in if/when the need arises.
Dental Emergencies can include Toothache, Broken Teeth, Wisdom Teeth pain, swelling, Crowns/Veneers popping off, lost fillings, broken dentures and more.
During work hours, call us on 07 5572 6522 to book an appointment. Alternatively, you can try booking online, but we do not always have availability on our site. To contact us outside of work hours, we have a couple of options available to you; you can book online, you can submit a "call back" via our Contact Us page or by using the Chat Now function.
What can you do in the meantime?
If you are waiting for us to get back in touch with you, please do the following:
-
Take 2 x Nurofen (ibuprofen) if you are able, if not stick to Panadol (Paracetamol).
-
If you are able to take Nurofen, wait another three hours and then take 2 x Panadol. If you have already taken Panadol, please follow the directions on the box for dosage.
-
Wait another three hours and repeat the cycle. This will help to alleviate the pain.
-
If you have clove/clove oil handy, this is a natural anaesthetic and will help numb the area. We do not recommend this for children or infants.
When to go to the hospital for Dental Emergency Issues
We know you want to do the right thing and keep the emergency department free for actual emergencies, but there are a few times when dental issues do warrant a trip to the emergency department.
Swelling - Large swelling towards the back of the throat/down the neck. Swelling can increase rapidly, shutting off airways and making breathing difficult. If this happens, please call 000.
Excessive bleeding after an extraction - Sometimes following a tooth extraction, you might develop delayed bleeding. Certain medications and health conditions will increase your risk. For this reason, our clinicians often check if your medical history is up-to-date. If you are experiencing excessive bleeding after our clinic closes, please have someone take you to your closest emergency department.
Preventative Dental will always be the key to avoiding most dental emergencies. At your check-up appointment, we will be able to catch things whilst they are small, to hopefully avoid larger problems down the road.
