Crowns and Bridges

Gold Coast dental crowns and dental bridges

Crowns and bridges are restorations that correct dental conditions while protecting and strengthening your teeth for a lasting smile. Dental bridges generally replace missing teeth, while a dental crown is a custom-made 'cover' for damaged teeth to restore tooth function and provide strength and support. The treatment for each differs, however, both techniques usually employ custom-made porcelain restorations for increased durability and a more natural appearance.

Dental Crowns

For patients with decayed, fractured, or aggressively worn teeth, dental crowns provide an aesthetic solution while protecting the long-term health of fragile damaged teeth. Dental crowns have many applications and can be used to correct several problems:

  • Severely decayed teeth
  • Teeth weakened by root canal treatment
  • Fractured or broken teeth
  • Broken or large fillings

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is used to fill the space left by a missing tooth. The bridge is usually made as a single unit, and held in place by crowns on adjacent teeth. A dental bridge improves the appearance of your smile and also prevents surrounding teeth from shifting out of place due to the space left by a missing tooth.

How long do dental crown or bridge procedures take?

Depending on your unique oral health condition, dental crowns or bridges can usually be placed in two or three visits. First, we prepare any teeth earmarked to receive restorations, and then impressions are taken of your teeth to accurately chart their positions so that your restoration fits like a glove.

The impressions are sent to our local Gold Coast dental lab partners to custom build your permanent restoration from quality materials, which generally takes around two weeks. In the meantime, we'll fit you with a temporary bridge or crown to wear while your permanent ones are being crafted.

Once the lab has finished building your new dental bridge or crown, our patient care team will book you in to check the final restoration fit and make any adjustments necessary before cementing it permanently in place. Then it's time to show off your new smile! If you practise proper oral hygiene and schedule regular dental cleanings, your new restoration will last for many years to come.
